One time, back in the 70's, it was growing in the ditch across the road from our house. But we had nothing to do with it, I SWEAR.

It is probably still growing wild in Pennsylvania. In the early 1900's all the way through the 1930's hemp was legally grown as a major cash crop in HEMPFIELD township in south-western Pennsylvania. "Hemp" is usually not smoked, but the smokable grade "marijuana" is, and I'm sure some ole-timers are still growing it on their farms!

Hell yeah. Anywheres you plant it, almost.
Sinsemela used to grow wild by the highways of California (back then it was the fly-by dope!!).
India: at Goa University there is the annual smoke off, when growers from all over the country bring their pounds, plonk 'em down, then ev'y bod's smokes 'em up!! And scores them the good stuff (pencils and paper provided, I think).
The Shavites hold it Holy, so you lotsa chill-ems wanderring aroun'.

In California, it is legal if you have a medical reason. It is a weed, technically, so I it must grow naturally - how else would it have ever grown in the first place?

Where I grew up in Vermont, marijuana grew all over the place! So, yes, it does grow naturally! It isn't legal though...

of course it grows in the wild.... on both the major landmasses, the american, and the eur-asian.... the american form is called sativa, and the eur-asian form is called indica, and the family name is cannabis..... the common name is hemp, and it has been used in all manners, (paper, rope, medicinally) for several thousands of years... it's actually the best paper crop for renewability there is, and one of the main reasons it was outlawed was because of newspaperman, and timberman... randolph hearst.... he pushed for it's illegality so it wouldn't threaten the profits his timber holdings were making in the paper and newspaper industries.... and he also had his hand in the newspaper business, so he created fictional tales to scare people away and get laws passed against it.... that's one of the reasons he's known as the father of yellow journalism, or what we call lies today.....
