First of all I’m gay and happy. Sencondly I'm reposting this after a couple of months to get a different perspective. Please do post your comments! Here goes...

One of my online friends is having (and has, for a couple of years) an attraction for boys. Haven’t ‘tried’ anything gay, but he is simply disgusted with being ‘gay’ and all… He wants to be heterosexual, and lead a ‘normal life’, as he put it… What is the best thing he can do to overcome this?

Anything helpful will be great appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is it a bad idea to give this question/answers link to him, to find out what you have to say about this situation?

tell him that you can't choose who you love... if you love someone then love them for who they are not what their gender is.

he can't just become straight... he'll find no gratification w/ a woman. it would feel wrong to him... not as in an imoral type thing but that it just doesn't feel right... meh u do understand what i'm trying to say right?

being gay isn't wrong! don't be afraid to love who u want! those who r homophobes r afraid thats why they make fun of gays they don't understand... its not wrong to love whoever u want

I would suggest finding websites that have unbiased information on homosexuality that WONT just tell him he's sick and perverted and going to hell. Find sites that give possible reasons for homosexuality or give good examples of how gay people lead happy lives. Depending on where/how he was raised, he could already be brainwashed into thinking it's wrong... in which case he's prejudice against himself. They say the only way to cure prejudice is through education. This here is a long shot, but you could direct him to this website: http://sexeditorials.com/ It's a website that publishes people's stories about their sexual experiences. There are quite a few stories in the gay section that are written by straight guys about experiences they've had with other guys and enjoyed. That's really all the advice I can give.

Firstewall, you're not a Therapist. Therefore you can not help him
Secondly, it's the persons own way of finding out about his sexual attraction. I have heard that over and over with folks that are gay. There is no cure of getting rid of. I would rather recommend to leave it up to him. If he is denying it he will have a very unhappy life. But that's for him to find out.

He can be whomever he wants.

I think you can be gay and not really prescribe to the norms of gay culture and philosophy.
There are alot of gay people that are anti-gay and you can lead a seamingly str8 edged relationship with a guy.live like room mates or bears or something like that.
most twinks are out clubbing, at the bathhouse, doing meth, having lotsa sex but you can be anti that culture and admit that your a fan of nature, reading, writing, Art, Music, creative expression etc etc. there are alot of indy rocker gays that don't fit the generalized personae of a gay dude. but they have come to realize that they are in fact gay themselves.

I suggest going to a LGBT support group in his area to talk about how he feels. The best environment for what he's feeling is a support group. Yahoo answers can really only do so much. Please suggest this to him, it's really the best way to help your friend in need.

He can't become straight. He just has to learn to live his life with the cards he got dealt. Sorry, life isn't always fair.
