So my Mom drove my car to work today to see if it was 'working good'. I told her to watch the temp! (I've been leaking coolant probably do to a whose that I negleted to tighten....stupid!) Anyways there was some fresh coolant in the trunk.....but she said it started clunking....so she drives it home like a race horse!!! So I tried to cycle it with cold water.....it still rattled! I think a rod may be shot......but is there anything else that it could be???!

I'm sure that she ran it out of coolant. There was none left on the tank when she got here. The engine was really hot.

i own a shop and if it got hot enough it could have ruined the engine you,ll have to repair the leak and re-fill it and start it and let it run to determine the damage on it,that's the only way ,maybe it will be alright ,once you get everything straitened out on it,good luck with it,you may need it.

You may have a blown head gasket. It could have gotten low on coolant and then the heads got hot and it blew the gasket, it could also be an intake manifold gasket, or it could be a leaking heater core. Take the car and get it checked. It could wind up tearing up your engine if you don't get it fixed.

If it got really hot, the motor may now be seized. If you can get it to start, but it still raps, you probably have serious engine damage. Sorry.

could be lots of stuff.... get a mechanics stethoscope, and track down the location... that should give you better insight into the problem.
