Well a while back there was this huge outrage that NBC apparently announced the M.A.H.R. foundation were petitioning that bands such as My Chemical Romance, From First To Last, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, and Darkest Hour, were to be banned in 45 states.
A lot of people were believing this but a lot of people say it was a big prank. What do you think? Please don't answer with comments such as:"Good, they deserve to be banned" thats just stupid . or "OMG they can't do that. That is so not fair!!" I know, we all know. But it didn't pass apparently. So opinions anyone?

I'm kinda doubting that those bands would be banned in 45 states anyway... thats kinda radical. Most of the women in this organization have lost a child or loved one due to suicide. They believe the lyrics from heavy metal bands directly contributed to the deaths. I don't believe in censorship so I'm glad it didn't go through.

If it isn't a prank, it's still pretty funny. I don't think anyone can ban any type of music, especially in the United States. Freedom of speech and all that...
What someone takes away from music is highly subjective. A certain song might make you want to kill yourself, but inspire someone else to change their lives. Interpretation is highly subjective, just like art (paintings).
Reminds me of when Tipper Gore (and other bored wives of senators and congressmen) tried to control music back in the early 90s. The only success they got was to get stickers on CDs - you know, the little "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics" stickers you get on almost every CD out there today.

Well, first: They really can't do that because it's a breach of the first ammendment [Freedom of Speech]. It probably was a prank for a silly little chain letter. Second: If they did ban hard rock, they'd have to ban rap, pop, and other types of music for equality.

well, personally. i hate the bands. but no music should be band. freedom of speech ya know. my friend just had an encounter like that. his leather jacket has the symbol for the band "bad religion" which is the cross 'x'ed out. and some girl reffered him to the principle saying it was offensive. what i'm getting at is. there is no way this could possibly happen because its against the first ammendment.

I hadn't heard any of that. But I find it funny.
I think it's sad that they don't have anything better to do with their spare time, really sad. It's just music, I was raised on Metal and the likes and I am perfectly normal. I don't worship satan or murder people, I just like metal and all other forms of rock music.
I'm not sure if I completely believe the story, but stranger things have happened I'm sure.

I've never heard of M.A.H.R., and those bands aren't hard rock, anyway. But, I did an internet search and here are some pages about them...mostly people complaining looks like.

I think it is just stupid because those bands are not even hard rock. You would think that they would want to get rid of bands like slipknot, korn, megadeath, powerman 5000. You know stuff that actually is hard rock. How ignorant and closed-minded.

well yeah i love all these bands.
so of corse i think its wrong.
but even though i hate rap i think it would be wrong to do the same to them.
because they make music about what they love and want to write about and no body should have the right to take that freedom away from an artist.
it really isnt right to take away their freedom to sing live or at all.
