My husband just started a new job, and I just about passed out when I found out what he will be making. I want to make sure that next year we don't end up owing taxes because we didn't have enough taken out of his check. I already told him to fill out his W-4 listing no dependents and also to have an extra $50-100 a week taken out in taxes. Is there anything else that we need to do in order to avoid not having enough taken out?

On average, he could be making as much as $4000.00 a month. So I want to make sure we take out any extra for taxes so that we don't end up paying in.

Talk with an accountant. The fee for an hour of consultation will be well worth it. He or she can give you specific advice based on your individual situation. He or she will take into consideration things such as number of dependents, mortgage interest, property taxes, etc... Without specific details, nobody can tell you the best course of action.

If he claims no dependents throughout this year, and then files 2 (you & he) at tax time nx year. That should be more than enough to ensure you get a refund. Also he should start a retirement fund as his place of employ.
