1) Slovenia has never controlled any colonies.
2) Yes, first Slovene state had to accept rule of Franks in 745 though they kept a great autonomy for about 100 years. Later Austrians successed the teritory from Franks. In 19th century Habsburg empire transformed into Austro-Hungary which fell apart after WWI. Most of Slovene territory joined to form the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, which later merged with Serbia to become Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, which changed its name to Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1929. Northern part remained in Austria and large area in the west was taken by Italy. During WWII Slovenian teritory was occupied by Germany, Italy and Hungary. After WWII Slovenia joined Tito's Yugoslavia. Slovenia became independent in 1991.

Dissatisfied with the exercise of power by the majority Serbs, the Slovenes succeeded in establishing their independence in 1991 after a short 10-day war. Historical ties to Western Europe, a strong economy, and a stable democracy have assisted in Slovenia's transformation to a modern state. Slovenia acceded to both NATO and the EU in the spring of 2004.

Slovenia never had any colonies. It once was part of Yugoslavia.
