Give yourself credit for being raised right. That your parents took the time to teach you manners and kindness to others.
We see this problem, not only on the internet, but in real life as well, now days.
People are too busy with their own selves that they don't take the time to teach manners and then to correct when manners are not used.
It is nice when you meet the ones that are in the group of having manners though.
Thank you for being one of them...you will find you will get farther in life being kind and having manners than the ones who don't.

People online are mean for the same reason that abu ghraib happened. The stanford prison experiment demonstrated that when people are given masks to hide behind, dissociating themselves from their actions and becoming the mask, when they are not forced to own up to their own actions, something odd happens. A great many people will do incredibly evil things. Many of these people are perfectly normal in everyday life, nice people. But give them a chance to be someone else and the darker side of their personality that they don't even know is there comes out through that mask. On the internet, you can be whoever you want to be. For people that lack self-awareness, they use it to be obnoxious, boorish, disrespectful fools. And when they do this, they can often inflame otherwise sane people into similar behavior.

Sounds like you were raised as you should have been. Credit your parents for that. There are ******* both online and in reality...those who are online are probably too cowardly to face anyone in reality and say that garbage. Those who try to screw with people just to get them into a tissy. They have the advantage of anonymity to hide behind. It may not be illegal, but God/karma still knows who they are. And God/karma will deal with them accordingly.

90% of the ignorance on the Internet is cause by your typical social outcast. They have severe social anxiety problems, and can't express themselves verbally or physically to the people who torment them, so they create what is called an "alter ego" - its almost like the person they want to be, but are to insecure to make themselves become this person. They excel in computer programming and technology, therefore more than likely being able to create booter programs and viruses that can't do much damage. Or they become "Billy Bad@$$" and boost their ego by tormenting the "not so efft up."

technology objectifies people so that instead of thinking of others as thinking feeling humans, we think of them as objects that we interact with... it is the same as with driving on the freeway... the other cars are no longer people with emotion, they are road blocks stopping us from going faster to where we need to be....
It's a sad state of affairs, but when someone is mean online, it's either because they're just mean (in real life too) or they aren't really thinking of you as a person.

Well, in here they know that they can't be touched, so they feel no fear of insulting anybody, etc. In my opinion, humans are evil by nature and that's why we enjoy making fun of and being mean to one another.

The internet acts as a facemask. They figure that " hey they cant see me... they dont know me...so.. i'll do what i want."
So they let out what they can't in the real world out here.

All the answers sound good. If it's offensive you could "report abuse" and get them kicked off of Yahoo.
