the holdout means the player will not play for you until you give him more money, a better contract. if he is holding out, he will not be getting paid his normal contract. however, he must play a total of 6 games if he wishes to be eligible for the free agent market in the offseason.

Its when a player says "I'm not gonna play until I get a new contract/ more money"
Usually a holdout will not last beyond week 10 because you need to be "active" on a team's roster 6 games to be eligible for Free Agency the next offseason.

I don't know about the "face of the NFL" but there are some great class acts out there. Kurt Warner comes to mind. He's a true class act. Is involved in many commendable charities, participates in many involved non profit organizations, and is a spiritual leader in his community. To me, the power of influence to the masses is far more important than just playing football for the NFL alone, because that influence they possess over others will help establish a foundation that will encourage honor and integrity, so that future generations may live in a healthy society long after we all have departed from this earth. There is great fulfillment in that impact far more than just playing football and some of those players (like Kurt Warner, McNabb, Payton Manning, etc) get that. I believe that mentality not only defines a player to be a class act among men, but it is possessing that type of personality and utilizing it to enlighten and encourage others that elevates one to the status of being "the face of the NFL" in my book.

It means he's demanding more money than the team is offering and won't play until he gets more money...
