It should cut down on some of the time-consuming part of doing admittance paperwork when you get there in labor, not comfortable and trying to deal with contractions. You don't want people waving papers in your face needing your signature in triplicate right then!
It's similar to going in for a pre-op appt. when you fill out the insurance paperwork, "informed consent" stuff and all that.

Mine consisted of the normal paperwork without the date of admission on it. It was also a tour of the hospital. Have your social security number, date of birth, Insurance ID card, Emergency contact numbers, and any birth plan that you have for you. Also have an idea of how many people you want in the room with you. More than likely, they will give you a tour of the hospital, how to get in at what hours. Where the labor and delivery ward is. Also, where the post partum ward is. This is yor chance to ask what they do as far as feeding the child after delivery (if you want your child breast fed only, tell them) what times they have the baby in the nursery, what are their visiting hours, what are their rules as far as children, video cameras, stuff like that. Basically, this is your chance to make sure you are ready before it is crunch time. Good luck!

I just preregistered a week ago. It is a questionaire-type thing that you fill out. The exact same questions that they will ask when you are admitted. It will save you alot of time & agrivation....You never know what kind of mood you'll be in. It will also go further, if you choose to, and ask about the info that will be on the baby's birth certificate. It will let you have more time without interuptions, while in the hospital. I think it's worth it.
I did it online @ the hospital's website.

Basically, it allows you to just give all of your information to the hospital so you don't have to bother with it while you are in labor. It's a time saver. All you do is take a copy (or whatever info your doctor gives you) to the hospital you are delivering at. They just keep your info handy so that when the big day comes, you only have to say, "Hey, my medical records are here." Plus, it keeps the hospital from redoing any tests due to lack of info. If they don't have certain info, they may have to perform tests that you have already had done once.

Most hospitals do preregistration for maternity. It just makes things easier when you arrive in labor. Among other things, you can leave your purse at home so it doesn't get stolen and just take your drivers license for ID. Your hospital may have online registration, but make sure it's a secure site before giving your information. Some gals have said that they can get a lot more information if they just go to the hospital and register.

When I went through it,
It consisted of insurance information, address, name, birth date, who my doctor was, approximate due date, what kind of rooms they had, medication allergies, the types of things I wanted during labor. If my hospital had been different (they only have solo rooms for new mom's not all hospitals are like that so check on that with your's because you do have hte option at most hospitals to have your own room.

Yes I have heard of it. It is basically when you go into the hospital before you go into labour and give them all your insurance info and stuff like that. This saves a lot of time, and you don't have to stand there with amniotic fluid running down your leg while you tell them who to call in case you die. You can just go straight up to the maternity ward.
I would do it a few days before your due date.

Yes and it saves you the headache of them bugging you when you are in pain and not 100% in the conversation. Just go there to the registration tell them you'd like to pre register yourself for the birthing center. They take your name, allergies, insurance info, and ID have you sigh a few forms and that's it. When the big day arrives just tell them you pre registered and you get 2or3 papers in your face instead of 6or7.It's a good idea if you happen to be there already just pop over takes like 10 minutes. Blessings and prayers for a healthy baby!!

You'll get a tour of the maternity ward plus fill out all the paperwork for your insurance information - this way when you are in labor, you just check in, rather than having all that stuff to do when you are NOT IN THE MOOD.

Yes, you should definantly pre-register--many hospitals even give you the option of doing it online. It will save you and your partner a lot of time when you go in already in labor. Basically, they want info like name, birthday, ssn, insurance, etc. Just the paperwork. It will take probably 15minutes.
