A true man of God would not do the things that MR. BUSH has done, is doing or intends on doing. No one in my mind is further from God at this point and I think it would be a sham for him to lead a prayer about anything. We on the other hand should pray that his time in office ends quickly.

I think that if he does, then perhaps we should ask who he should be praying to.
Would he make a Christian prayer, and why would anybody assume that's the kind of prayer he should make? Yeah, he seems to be a strong advocate of Christianity, but let's face it, our world has enough problems based on religious wars and fighting over beliefs. A lot of cultures hate the States as it is; let's not give them something else to hate the country for. Bush leading the country in prayer will say to the world that the States is comprised of Christians. There are plenty here, but making it so direct in the face of the world could just make more trouble.
I'm not attacking Christianity here (I do that somewhere else), I'm just saying that it's the fanatics who are the problem

There is nothing wrong with a political official doing a public prayer. It is done all the time at every level of government.

Mayors, governors, senators, the President, etc....

There is nothing in the Constitution that says there shall be no religion or mention of God in government buildings or in government proceedings.

The only thing the Constitution does is prevent the establishment of a national religion.

All individual state constitutions refer to God, a creator or higher power. Some states in the past even endorsed a particular religion. States have great latitude and freedom to form almost any type of environment and laws they wish as all rights not explicitly given to the federal government are left to the states.

I think any President we have should say a prayer for our great nation. A vast majority of the people in the nation believe in a higher power and our Founding Fathers did as well.
