I have fairly liberal views....However, I highly doubt that the world would be a better place if Liberals ruled. We as human beings seem incapable of resisting the temptations of power, regardless of our personal beliefs and values.

Does 'enforcing' Democracy sound like freedom to you? How about a forced equality, one that treats everyone EXACTLY the same? Finally, what if Liberal beliefs and values were legislated into law? You remember Communism, right? If one were to read Marx's manifesto, one might think Communism was the solution to our troubles--inequality and inequity. In practice, however, Communism was just as corrupted by human shortcomings as the most villainous leaders of that era.

As long as we cling to an 'us or them' mentality, we are doomed to riding our self-created merry-go-round of warring for peace, regardless of whether we are Conservative or Liberal..

I firmly believe we must look closely at both the strengths and weaknesses of Conservatives as well as Liberals. Conservatives are essentially the backbone of our(U.S.) government. The Liberals tend to be the heart of it. We need social structure. We also need the freedom to express what's in our hearts. I think the world would be a better place for everyone if we used both our backbones and our hearts.

The sad reality is that neither side gets it right all the time. The trick is to combine the best and most practical ideas from both sides.

Take the surplus we had in 2000. If it was left to the liberals alone they would have squandered it on ineffective bureaucratic social programs. It was left to conservatives alone and they squandered it on tax cuts and defense spending. (Bush is a rare example of a big government conservative and increasing spending while decreasing tax revenue is just absurd and goes against the entire concept of fiscal conservancy.)

Maybe, but I know the world would also be a much more miserable place. Do you know how big and bloated the government would have to be to make that happen? It'd be a totalitarian NIGHTMARE.

You know, there's one place you can go where you'll always have a roof over your head, a relatively clean place to sleep, three decent meals a day, and enough leisure time during your day to relax and read. Sounds like paradise, doesn't it? It's called a prison. And that's what your life would be like if nanny-staters were allowed to reign supreme.

When you elect central planners and social engineers to cure all the world's ills, you get way more than you bargained for. You're inviting control and oppression into your life.

I am guessing you are trying to say the rest of the world would be like San Francisco. It is one of the nicest cities in the US but also its people can be very stuffy and pretentious. That is something I am not a fan of.
