It's really quite easy. Just keep in mind that the decimal is base unit 10 (deci). Just as words with the precedent "centi" is based on 100. The difficulty for most of us is getting over this small hurdle. I will give you some examples, and perhaps it may make more sense to you.

1/4 = .25 Imagine one dollar. Base 100. 100 pennies. 20 nickels. 10 dimes. 4 quarters. They're all the same. So you see the 1/4 fraction. It is 25% of 100, or .25 or one quarter of 100.

Let's take 1/3. It's simply 100 divided by 3, the denominator. Your answer will be .3333, taken to the fourth significant digit.

How about 1/2? This is really easy. One half of ten is five. One half of one hundred is fifty. Divide one by two and you will get .50 every time. Fifty cents is half of a dollar. Fifty cents is five dimes.

Never let mathematics or calculations intimidate you. It's a lot easier than you think. It's simply rote memory and practice. Trust me, it's a lot easier than history, english literature, or philosophy. You have to think in those studies. Good luck to you. Have fun. Rex.
