Ok.. I admit it. I was a little tipsy and changed in to custom to quickly,. It only happened once.

Original artist drawn drafts of Superman's "costume" had him in a blue one piece suit w/ red boots and matching cape. Fearing many may preceive Superman was nude, save for cape and boots, they figured on red briefs would spare readers any upsetting confusion.
However, such "briefs" even then were highly controversial......but the risks paid well off.

No. He was just in such a rush to get dressed that he forgot to put them on, but when he realised, he couldn't get the tights off again and knew that it was important to wear them..so put them over the top. He figured that, flying at the speed of light,no one would see him long enough to know what he was wearing....
...I guess he forgot about the stopping to talk to people bit!

Because the first time he wore the uniform he was in a rush. He didn't have time to fix it so he just wore them like that. After recieving positive feedback from the people he just decided to keep the underwear like that.
