I am OCD and i can tell you that the worries are not neccesarily characterized by being "out of touch with reality" in fact normally they are quite rational. However its the amount you worry that is out of touch with reality, and you do this as a way of resolving worries within urself that wont go away. At times of stress it gets worse for me. I guess the key thing is just that, do you feel the need to check the same info just to make sure, even tho uve read it?? u cud just be addictied to worry or the internet or both which is not the same as OCD. Also, do u think that something bad will happen if u dont? and can u put it down to anything else? I have been on the internet for hours this evening, but thats just a habit are u sure u dont just have an additction to the internet? either way why not look up OCD, and do u have any other symptoms? such as checking things, washing things, etc. when U KNOW there is no real purpose but u just feel compelled to anyway "just in case?".

OCD is being obsessed with something and doing things over and over again, the thoughts may not be reality but the things that are carried out are, so therefore OCD can manifest itself in many ways. If a person is looking into the same health problem all the time for no real reason this could be OCD or just worry, if they go to the doctors then they will find out one way or the other if there is anything to worry about, if the doctor says everything is fine and they continue to search the Internet then this could suggest they are obsessing about a problem that isn't there and this could lead to OCD. Either way the best thing to do for anyone that is worried about a health problem is to go to the doctors instead of worrying yourself about it as this will only cause more problems in the long run.

OCD is short for obsessive compulsive disorder. It is an illness which gives out individuals many many different sypmtoms, some clean and clean and clean, some hord things and cannot throw anythiing away, some have to touch objects in cetrain orders before doing anything...the various types are endless! (unfortunatly)
If you have a problem- any problem, which is you feel shortening your life, is not benefitting anyone in the cold hard light of day, and has to be done or all hell breaks loose, your well on your way if not already at a confrimation for the mental health problem OCD,
BUT remember, what is one persons ocd is another perspons normality, its how you deal with your feelings thats the important part- are the symptoms masking some thing else more scary or difficult? then step one step closer, are they controlling your life to a degree where they stop yopu doing what you want to but really without a real excuse? take another step, are they threatening relationships....? keep on till you see how much the ocd shotens your life.
When you think about it all, do you Feel trapped and alone?
You have OCD?

Yes, spending hours & hours on the internet researching pointless things can be attributed to OCD!! I suffer from OCD myself & that is one of my obsessions. To others who do not have this problem it may sound dumb or unimportant, but it has its effect on you after a while. OCD has caused me to become an insomniac. Some nights I do not even sleep at all because I am on my laptop doing something pointless; however, I don't realize the pointlessness until 5AM rolls around & I've produced absolutely nothing.
OCD is draining, both physically & emotionally. I strongly suggest you see a doctor & seek help. OCD is treatable today by certain medications (such as SSRIs) & behavioral therapy.
I wish you the best of luck!

I don't know if OCD causes this, but I've been having some health problems(I think) and I'm always on here researching what it could possibly be and not be, but have yet to come up with an answer that seems to make sense of whats going on with me, so in turn, I keep on researching. If your doing this same thing or something similar, your not alone. It might be caused by OCD, I would look into it.

Try this link to get more information on OCD
http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Booklets/Understanding/Understanding+obsessive-compulsive+disorder.htm
it wouldn't be seen as a common OCD ritual, but who's to say that it isn't one of your symptoms...... however the compulsion to find information about fears about your own health are a more likely indicator.
As a depression sufferer who uses the internet and computer as a way to deal with sleepless nights, I know that anything is possible.
Seek advice from your GP and see if there is a local Mind in your area
http://www.mind.org.uk/Mind+in+your+area/
both will be able to assess your behaviour pattern and look for any under lying issues that may be causing it.
Good luck, help is available.

Yes, very much so. OCD is basically intrusive thoughts and sometimes the sufferer is well aware that they are not based on reality, but can't help themselves acting on it.
