My Dad - he never swore, never drank, never cheated, never got mad or raised his voice to my mom or us kids, he provided well for our family & he's still my hero. He grew up in poverty on a farm. His parents had enuf money for the first child to go to college - the condition was the first child had to put the second child thru college, and so on. My Dad finished college in 3 years & supported himself playing trumpet in a band at night - then he put his younger sibling thru college, and so on. All of my aunts and uncles went to college & became very successful. They all helped support my grandparents in their old age.

My Dad is now 85, exercises every day, takes care of his beautiful rose garden - he won an award for his roses - and he came from a poor family with no indoor plumbing or electricity - to an old man who surfs the net & does excel spreadsheets for the Rotary. He's smart, nice & my hero!

My father. He very rarely yelled. He would listen to what I did or what the problem was and then give me some advise or laugh and say that is it? Okay so ......... Just unconditional love and mutual respect. He has been there for my daughters while their own father was to mixed up in his drugs and alcohol, but grandpa always made sure they understood he was grandpa and not daddy. He takes them fishing and on vacations. He comes to their recitals and plays and sits there with so much pride on his face. He is the one there to help with the projects that are virtually impossible to finish and he never takes over, just guides. I wish there were more men like him today. He is the best.

I really don't have a hero because all the people I have started to look up to, have disappointed me in some way and have showed me that they are not the person to look up to anymore. So I have decided to be myself and not look up to anyone
