Alice in Chains - Nutshell
Even though those guys could rock, this song is simplistic and shows that they have true talent. Layne's vocals are haunting and pure........and there's a sense of vulnerability present. The song gives me chills everytime I hear it.
Godsmack - Voodoo
The music is amazing. Again, its not over processed. Its the percussion that does it for me.

AIC is still my favourite group, and is probably the only hard-rock outfit that knew the importance of a vocal harmony. That's why my vote goes to "Rooster" for best song. It has the full on screaming that only Layne Staley could really nail in the bands of their era, and it also has incredible musicianship. Layne's and Jerry Cantrell's harmonies during that song are unparalleled in contemporary rock and have continued to send shivers up my spine since the first time I heard it.
Also, the song's lyrics really show the conflict between Gen X, their parents, and their grandparents (though the latter is an implied conflict in the song).

My favorite Godsmack song is "One Rainy Day" I know that it is a slower song and kind of a sad song but for some reason it strikes a cord with me. It is also a song that gives us a glimpse of the real pain Sully went through when his girlfriend broke it off with him. He mentions in the song where he has tears falling down a departure from his other stuff where he is either pissed or more pissed.

Godsmack - Awake is a good song, but AIC was a great band, many, many great songs, 'We Die Young", "Would", "Them Bones", "Rooster", "Man in the Box". "Down in a Hole", "Angry Chair",...etc, it's too bad Lane Staley bought the farm!!!
