I have always been a fan of PETA, until recently, I read an article where they stated that pit bull's should be euthanized. (This was bad news to me and my pit bull Sheena) I didn't think People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals would support euthanization of an entire breed. This caused me to dig into the organization a little further, and I became appauled at their beliefs. I mean, I can't believe I was giving money to them. they believe the following:

All domesticated animals need to be euthanized or neutared to prevent them from being outside of their natural state.

A domesticated animal is altered by man, and it is better to have it destroyed than let it be a negative example of a free animal.

Most state they don't have pets and hate the idea of man associating with an animal

Have gone on record for stating they would rather save a smart dog than a retarded baby

These are just a few of the horrible things that I have discoverd about them from reputable sites

I know PETA used to help just causes, however, they do not now. If you want a good organization to support show love to the ASPCA. PETA wants man to revert to days before caveman status.

I used to be a big fan of PETA also. Then I came to Y!A and people have changed my mind. Did you know some PETA members were in jail (or being tried/I forget) for ANIMAL ABUSE?

I don't have a pitbull but I hope to own on in the future when I get my own house and I'm all settled down. NO DOG should be put down because of its breed. My pekingnese bites EVERYONE, should he be put down? No, because I hope over huge stones to make sure the people in my family/town are safe. When people come up and say 'aw what a cute dog!' .. I tell them NOT to touch him because he can and will bite. When family kids come over I lock him up with a baby gate in a bedroom. Yeah he may be mean and aggressive but at the end of the day hes MY dog and MY responsibility. If every dog had to go through a temperament test and failing = euthanasia and passing = lived I know my dog wouldnt pass. He's my first dog and I love him to death, and its MY responsibility to make sure nothing happens to him or the people around us.

ALOT of attacks happen with smaller dogs. Do we hear about them? Nope. Why? Because they don't do alot of damage. Now if a pitbull or GSD bit you, they could do some serious damage. Why not just ban EVERY single breed? Because EVERY SINGLE BREED is prone to aggressiveness!

I do however agree that every animal should be neutered/spayed UNLESS you are a breeder who tries to BETTER the breed and breed out problems that it has. Then maybe we wouldnt have millions of dogs euthanized each year.

I really hope this all settles down and pitbulls get out of the media hype. Its such a shame, I thought we were better than this? Its like we're back to racism all over again.

I hope my opinion helped or whatever. Sheena sounds beautiful and I'm sure shes the sweetest dog ever. I wish I could meet her!

Oh, sorry this is so long :]

I'm a vegetarian and a strong believer is animal welfare but PETA always goes way to far. I know that's what the organization does but they need to calm down for a bit. They make anyone who loves animals look like a moron. However there's no way to shut them down(i wish there was) so the best thing to do is not give them all this attention. It's what they want

I have never agreed with the majority of PETAs beliefs but I dont think they should be destroyed because their beliefs such as the ones you have listed are never going to actually become laws. They have however helped a lot of animals by being so fanatical and over the top, such as getting PetCo to stop the sale of large birds and have put many animal factories, shelters and stores that were not caring for animals properly out of business. I think that the positive things that they are able to accomplish outweighs whatever beliefs they have. as these are not really going to effect anyone.
