Even After sweeping Minnesota in the first round last year the A's still don't have the respect of most fans, most people pick them to finish 3rd or 4th this year.
They have the wins and division crowns (2nd most wins in majors behind the Yanks since 2000) 4 AL west championships in last 7 years...etc. but EVERY SINGLE YEAR no one picks them to even make the playoffs.
I'm a huge A's fan but would be the first to admit that we don't have the best player in ANY position... most fans just pay attention to the big names...
The east coast bias also plays a big role... especially since they are from Oakland, a city very few people really know much about or respect.
But the A's have the wins to back up the fact that they are a good team... The Angels certainly seem like a much better team on paper with big names like Vlad Guererro but in head to head competition over the last 101 games between the two teams, the A's are 51-50... and they have won the division 4 times to 2 for the Angels since 2000, I do give props to the Angels for winning it all, something the A's haven't come close to doing.
The A's are a complete team, with quality pitching and defense and a strong bench and not great, but decent hitting... they will win a lot of games like they always do.

They sare that with the Blue Jays.
Being next to BarryBondsville, it is hard to get the media spotlight away from them.
The Blue Jays being from Canada, have no media spotlight to shine in.
The A's manage to lose all their goodplayers, but stil manage to find some diamond in the minor leagues to take his place.
The Jays finally get some spending money, but it is pocket change compared to our AL East rivals.
The A's always have good seasons, but dont have a defining moment to remember it with
The Jays finally got a step in the right direction, but the media was too busy worrying about Boston's collapse.
We get no respect because of the media hype on all the other teams, but that will change when its Jays vs. A's in the AL championship game!!!! Then they will have no one else to focus on HAHAHA!!! Go A's and Jays !!!!!!

They aren't a glamour team like the Yankees or the Sox and they don't have many big name players like the giants do. Does it really matter that they don't get the respect they deserve though? If they got more coverage I wouldn't be able to steal Harden in the late rounds of my fantasy drafts...

I being a Yankees fan have plenty of respect for the team and scouts. They do an excellent job of finding good, young talent. While I may not fully agree with the money ball concept,I can certainly appreciate it. Some good talent has come out of that team ie:Hudson,Mulder,Zito,Giambi,Byrnes and whomever else I missed.

East coast bias on ESPN. They get plenty of respect in Anaheim, Arlington and Seattle. And after this afternoon, in the Bronx too. Can you say "Mar-co Scu-ta-ro"?

I'll take a stab at this one... I believe it is because they get bounced EVERY YEAR early...it could also be because of the HORRIBLE personnel decisions they make. but it's probably the blowing it in the playoffs part.
the giants have barry bonds. a walking news article.
