Carbon Dioxid gas is disolved in water, pressure keeps it in solution. When you open a soda you release the pressure and the disolved gas started to come out of solution. This creates the bubbles you see in your glass.

When you suck soda through a straw you are pulling a lower pressure in your mouth. The lower pressure causes more carbon dioxide to be released from solution as there is less pressure acting on the soda to keep it disolved.

The air traps the carbon dioxide in the drink which creates room for more bubbles inside a straw.
