My insurance will not allow me to add maternity insurance to our policy.(no matter what) I cannot change health insurance due to exsisting condition (not serious). Anyway I have been trying to find a solution for literally months now. What should I do? How much is it to just have a baby without insurance??? (baby will be covered when born) PLEASE HELP!

I had my baby by c-section about 5 months ago. If I hadn't had insurance the bills were about $20,000. Even with insurance we paid $4000 out of pocket.

I don't really have any great suggestions about what to do for maternity coverage except perhaps trying to get a job at a huge company that doesn't have any restrictions on their health insurance (for example my friend's hubby got hired on a Boeing in the middle of her high risk pregnancy and they paid 100% from day 1).

You will have to get on medicaid for pregnant women. It lasts until a month after the baby is born and then the baby will also be on it for a year.

Insurance has dates when you can sign up for additions and etc. but they will not let you add on stuff when it is not the dates.

It is a LOT to have a baby without insurance and then the dr. visits are once a month after 5-6 months then every two weeks after 7-71/2 months, then every week at 8 1/2 months. Then you have follow up, and everything else.

you can apply for medicaid but will have to meet the salary requirements. I dont remember how much prenatal care was before insurance. I ended up paying about $1200 but dont have the greatest ins. with my first child my hospital bill was $13,000. my second was a little less (before my ins paid) You can make payments on this. what are they gonna do? repossess!? (ha ha) If the bill goes to collection they will probably take a much less amount to settle the debt. This may affect your credit, though.
Try to get medicaid if at all possible and good luck

I do not know where you live but in South Carolina when you get pregnant you are automatically accepted into Medicaid insurance. You should go to the dept. of public assistance and inquire about insurance while you are pregnant. There is help available But you have to do the leg work to find where!

Yikes! It is about $5000 plus. Barring no complications to you during delivery. You may almost do better by claiming no insurance and see where it would get you. There are so many women out there who have babies with no insurance. It may be an avenue to look at.

I'm not sure what you can do. I am sorry that you're in that position. My cousins had the same peoblem and had a really tough time finding a doctor who took cash. I think it cost them about $5,000 - $9,000, not quite sure. I might take the suggestions of claiming no insurance or try medicaid. Good Luck and Congratulations!!
