I can’t remember a time that computers didn’t peak my interest. My parents purchased our first computers when I was about eleven years old. I soon learned how to program computers. I quickly became fascinated with the power that only a few commands can hold when put in the correct order. At that time I knew within myself that a computer program can simulate any logical process. A computer is only limited by peripherals, memory and speed. I also know that I have it within myself to achieve. I also know that I have it within myself to achieve something miraculous. Artificial Intelligence was something very achievable, and I knew that it was only a matter of time before I could discover how to program it. It has become my destiny, not because I chose it, but because it chose me.
I am now 30 years old and working as a full time senior software developer. I have learned quite a lot since that time. Memory and speed have multiplied over a thousand times since I was eleven. The things that I knew when I was eleven, I still know today and I carry them with me. Strong AI is obviously not something easy to accomplish or someone would have done it long ago. It takes money, motivation, and the right ideas along with a lot of innovative thinking. I have run many encouraging tests and I hope to be done in the next ten years.

We are all needed and we all have our purpose. None of which maybe what we think it is. Without us, there can be no future for the human race. We are the link between yesterday and tomorrow. Most of us realize our destiny in just that fact. A select few lead the way into the distant tomorrows. None is more important or less so. It takes us all to make the future.

the most pressing human need beyond the physical (food, water, air, shelter), is the need to be important. (I often wonder if I will ever do anything "important".) I guess it depends on how one defines "important" for themselves. got a Bible? check out the book of Ecclesiastes. ("Vanity of vanities, all is vanity") I think the more afraid people are that they won't be "important" the more arrogant, self-serving, and self-absorbed you become. it's kinda like "if you're trying to be cool, it's because you're not." I think "important" is a relative term. "important" to some people means making a lot of money. to some, it's feeding a lot of orphans or saving whales, or collecting Barbies. yeah, "important" is relative. I used to worry that my life have a "special purpose" until my best-laid plans all went awry. (life is what happens when you're making other plans.) Trying to be important "on purpose" will drive you crazy. just be yourself.
Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.

This is a false dilemma and illogical.
Our purpose in life is that which we select our purpose to be. We exist because people engaged in sex which resulted in our presence.
Although, the question can be equated to an existential crisis.

When I was much younger I did, however, when younger still, I'd lie around all day pooping and peeing myself, but, I
grew past both.
