Read Stephen King's book "Cell" It almost scared me enough to make me give up my own phone! Not quite though. It does make a strong statement (even though its fiction) on how common and ingrained cell phones have become in our society.

We stopped at a 7/11 and used a pay phone.
Cell phones have caused more car accidents and deaths than anything else in the past 5 years.
I wish they'd go away...or somehow made it so they don't work when a car is moving.

probably because that's all we ever use. before cell phones, communication was harder, but life went on.

We'd be forced to go back to the old-fashioned way of communicating. We wouldn't like it and the kids would whine, but we'd do fine.
