Part of the problem is that the government is too afraid to move people when they need the land. As most cities are already over developed, it would relocate thousands of families to set up reliable mass transit systems. Obviously the other part is how much money the polititians get from oil companies to NOT fund said items.

I don't think we are afraid of it. I think our governments, city, county, state and federal, have all failed us on this subject. And have failed us on it for 30 years. I tried to take the bus once for work...the route which I could drive in 10 minutes, would have taken me 90 minutes on the bus. I don't mind investing a bit more time, but 9 times as much seemed a bit senseless.
I've used mass transit in DC and in Atlanta, and found them both to be more than adequate. I'd use them regularly if I lived where it was available.

because its all about image. the more techical transportation here in usa is, the more people go for it. It is a game'"who can use the fear factor to make the act of transportation more image concious." you cant stand out in a speed rail lol but you may standout in an airport if you cause a scene and believe me people of all ages do. its just another useless american gimmick but one people fall for. donalore_43

do you already know how plenty funds would be necessary to help that? this is like construction yet another highway gadget. it might take a minimum of 1000000000 funds to redo one state. you're asking to remake americas finished transportation gadget. it is not attainable. There are approximately 2 hundred million autos on the line, and you're asking to render them ineffective. What happens to the money the persons spent on them? and how are we going to construct all this? And the taxes for even in simple terms using this could be contained in direction of the roof. it is going to positioned all of our people in debt. and not all cities would be waiting to have sufficient funds this transportation, so as that they would be decrease off from the worldwide. Plus, if there is any possibility, the alternative transportation would have nowhere to bypass. If there's a prepare crash, hundreds would desire to die. additionally, trains would desire to be on their tracks, in comparison to autos, if there's a twister, deibris, mudslide, and so on. you may relatively and at as quickly as substitute your course. additionally, to repair a raill gadget willl fee plenty, in comparison to a highway, it does not fee THAT plenty to pave. this is continually reliable to return up with those strategies, yet next time, you may desire to think of the way it will be created, and how the persons react to certainly one of those thingyou could think of the way it is going to play a place in OUR existence.

I don't think they are afraid of it.... I think there are a couple of reasons it is not more prevalent:
culture-- Americans love their cars
space-- Americans work quite a distance from home.... have a big yard, but out of the city
historically cheaper fuel prices (that is changing!)

We overcrowd everything, and didn't plan very well to allow for alternate transportation - so what we DO have, is not very convenient to use. And Americans thrive on convenience.

Alternative's aren't independent enough, and require extra planning. Most of us don't like to put that much planning into our days.
