The heat is due to the healing process taking place. It's inflammation.
Ice it and use a compression wrap in intervals. (15 ice, 30 compression, repeat).
If it's not feeling any better in, say, 3 days, go see a doctor.
Shouldnt be too bad if you can walk on it and if it only hurts when you stand.

It sounds like you probably sprained it. I have sprained my ankle so many times, that the ligament tore. The best advice I can give you is to stay off of it as much as possible, put an ace wrap on it (along with ice), prop it up on pillows to reduce swelling, and if it isn't better in a few days, I would go see a doctor.
I hope this helped a little. Good luck!

It could be anything from a strain, a sprain, or even a simple fracture. The only way to tell for sure is to have X-rays of it. If you are able to walk on it better today than yesterday then it is probably a strain, or sprain. If not go see a doctor.
