I broke my retainer and I think I need a new one, but what's the best way to lie about it so they don't think it's my fault? Say a ball hit my mouth in gym?

How did you break your retainer? More specifically, what did you do to break your retainer that's so bad you can't tell your parents about it?
The problem with the ball excuse is that, if you were hit in the mouth with a ball hard enough to break the retainer, you'd probably have broken a couple of teeth too.

Always tell your parents the truth.
People screw up. My kids break retainers, glasses and everything else that isn't nailed down. I don't get angry
unless they lie.
How can a parent help a child if they lie. Plus how can a parent trust a child that lies. I tell my kids all of the time
its better not to lie because they will punished far worse for
lying to me then any other crime.
Kids screw up and break retainers. Fine no big deal. But lie to me about it and I will get very angry.

Here is a better thought... why don't you not only be honest but take some accountability for what you did.
Tell you parents the truth, and tell them you are sorry. Tell them you know how expensive the retainer costs so you want to do extra chores around the house to pay them back for the cost.
That not only is being honest, b ut showing you are starting to learn the many things your parents have been trying to teach you and instill in you your whole life.
Be responsible and do the right thing. It may impress them enough to not make you pay for it.

As a mother of four - just tell them the truth. They may not be happy if you were doing something stupid that it resulted in it getting broke - but if they find out your lying not only will they be twice as angry, but you will also have lost their trust and respect.
My kids have dones some pretty stupid things over they years - and I have been angry from time to time, but nothing gets mom fired up and ready to roar as when I find out I was lied to.

Blame it on a black kid or a mexican kid. I know you think Im bullshitting but this will work. Pick someone big who youve seen beat someone up before and really sell it.
