No dust inside the glasses is my guess. And, yes, the draining of water left over. That is why I do it. I don't do it with plates and bowls because I guess I never thought about it. Nice question. I'm gonna start turning the bowls and plates upside down now. Yuck..the more I think about it.

It depends on the type of cup or glass. Sometimes by putting them upside down, you can stack another layer on top.
That's why I do it anyway. Bowls and plates stack right-side up.

i dont put my glasses or cups upside down, but i would guess that bowls and plates are rightside up so that when theyre stacked on each other theyre easier to remove from the cabinet

I always heard it was to keep vermin from getting in them. I, personally, set them in the cabinet right side up. I don't want whatever is on the shelf on the lip of the glass. Always done it that way.

cups are put upside down cause you can put more cups/glasses on top of them (makes more room) and plate we put right side up because you can put plates on top of them basically like i said before MORE ROOM!

thats a good question, my mom does it to drain the remaining water onto a mat underneath that keeps it from seeking into the wood. But as far as bowls. I have no idea and thats really intresting. . . .

some people put them upside down so bugs cant crawl into them, but luckily we dont have bugs in my house.

My Grandmother used to do it, and she told me it's so dust didn't get in. Kinda makes sense I guess..??
As for the plates, I have no idea.
