Sounds like your friend is embarrassed by you. You can try talking to him/her, but really, that's not a real friend.

If she does this means she is not a real friend because a friend is not afraid of letting know others that you're her friend (when she does not talk to you when the popular girls are around she is denying she knows you).
I think you should get new friends.

This is where in life you must let certain people or things go. Do be desperate and try to get her back, its time to move on. This person if she was really your friend would not have done this to you.
I feel for you I know it hurts, but trying to contact her will prolong the pain. The way to get over the pain is to be involved in your studies and a new friend will come along.

if someone doesn't talk to you when they're around other people that person is really not your friend but you could also have a heart to heart and tell your friend how you feel about the way she acts when she's with other people but if I was you I would find a new friend someone that doesn't act differently toward you when they are around other people

Make new friends. It's as simple as it sounds. Talk to new people and find someone who values what you have to offer. As my mother used to say, "with friends like that--you don't need enemies."
