Blondie, The Cars, Aerosmith, Boston, Kansas, Kiss, Rubber Rodeo, The B-52's, Henry Rollins Band, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Ramones, X, Cyndi Lauper, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Iggy Pop, Devo, The Go Go's, Joan Jett were ALL American artists and contributed well into the 80's and 90's, some are still going today, like Blondie, The New Cars, members of The Go Go's, and of course, Aerosmith and Kiss are still up on top.
Yeah, the 80's were FULL of great American bands (my favorites being Blondie, the 2's, and Devo)

The vast majority of hair bands that dominated the late 80s music scene came from Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Madonna is from Michigan. Michael Jackson is from Indiana. They are probably the two biggest pop artists from the 1980s, also.
