I know it has to do with a certain lifestyle choice of the youth of today. I'm a little behind the times. Just curious!

Its short for emotional -- means: Emo is a somewhat ambiguous, controversial slang term most frequently used to describe a fashion or subculture which is usually defined to have its roots in punk fashion and subculture, as well as some attributes of gothic fashion and subculture.

Emo stands for emotional. They are a little like goths, but much more sensitive and artistic. They generally wear black, with "slash" haircuts. Some bands they might listen to include My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, and Death Cab for Cutie.

I've always heard EMO as music - not really a lifestyle. But music-wise it's "emotional" - it's normally songs about love and life and just pouring out all of your emotions into music, and normally it has a punk sound to it.

Emo is Emotional. So when someone is emo, they are very emotional.People don't have to be exactly emo, they could just be acting emo. If you know what gothic is, it is like 2 steps down from being gothic. (They don't cut their wrists) -Thank the Lord!!!

emo are usually shy people. they distance themselves from others. they are usually deperessed, hence the name emo, which comes from emotional. some emos self harm to relief stress. that's basically waht emo means, in my words.

It is the choppy haircuts dyed black and other colors, pale skin and dark eye makeup. Layered t-shirts and skinny jeans. Makes me think of 80's new wave. I don't think they wear socks.
