pleated pants are sections of the material that are bunched together to make it puffer. unpleated pants are flat.
ex: pleated are dress docker pants
unpleated are like jeans

I personally cannot stand pleated pants. I have very big hips and smaller waist, and pleated pants just make my tummy seem bigger than it needs to be. I prefer plain front. I think the only person i have ever seen look good in pleated from pants are those with very short skinny legs, and larger top. The pleats help balance out small bottom.

Pleated pants have pleats in the front, unpleated pants have a flat front.

The fitting can be different. I personally find pleated pants to look more slimming and tailored, ( easier to dress up)
