I love to go on weekend trips with my 10 yr old son and sometimes a 3rd person. I usually stay in a hotel using Priceline but I thought a pop up camper or other small camper would be more fun with building a fire at night and meeting other campers, etc. I would probably want a campground with showers since I would prefer not to get too expensive a camper having a shower.

You didn't say what kind of car you'll be using to tow this camper. There are many automobiles that will not accept a trailer hitch. I had a Saturn SL-2 that was like that. I wanted to install a reciever type hitch so I could put a lift for my wifes handicap mobility scooter. No can do with that car.

If you will go to www.goodsam.com you will be able to surf through and find their towig guide. You should be able to find just how much weight your vehicle can tow.

There's a new type camper out called the A-Liner. as the name implies, it's shaped like an A-frame house. It folds fairly easily and is light in weight.

The there's also the traditional "Pop-UP" camper. These are wonderful little rigs. My wife & I traveled all over the Smokey Mountains with one of these. We towed it behind a '78 Monte Carlo and did real well. It wasn't very light weight like the newer units are today.

Try to go to a RV show to get an idea of the price range and how well equipted you would like.

You might try a few RV manufacturers like Fleetwood and Jayco at their web sites, just ad .com to their name for a look.

Enjoy and welcome to the rv lifestyle. Don't forget to join the Good Sam RV club for even more fun. Then go to one of their "Samborees".

Sorry, previously I missed the part about campgrounds. KOA has a program where you buy a card and get 5-10% off each visit. The only problem is, KOA's are expensive. Most state parks are rustic and provide a little more privacy at your site. We prefer state parks in Florida because we get 50% off since we are senior citizens. Some federal parks are nice also. Private campgrounds, most of the time offer things like pools, gamerooms and laundrys.

Arthur has excellent advice.
I would certainly recommend looking in to the A-Line ... it sets up and takes down so easily!

As far as campgrounds, avoid KOA ... they are often less clean and more expensive than other private campgrounds. State parks are generally very good, and so are some county parks.
