Once all conditions of a sentence (to include supervised and unsupervised probation/parole, restitution, etc) are completed, I don't have a problem with it. I also don't have a problem with the states that don't allow it (reference the current debate in Florida). I'm fine with either option.

Regarding the military... nobody has a RIGHT to serve in the military. Thats a good thing. A professional military with standards for enlistment should be something we all want in society. Disqualifications for criminal background reasons are only one of many reasons individuals are not eligible for service.

I think that they should lose their right to vote because they didn't care about the law when it was being broken. If the person was sent to prison it probably was a serious offense. As far as the military goes I don't believe that most criminals would want to fight for a country that has imprisoned them nor do I want to put a gun in their hands. They lost that right when they decided to commit serious crimes. But if we could say that they wouldn't turn on us and shoot at our own well sure let them serve.

You were removed fom society, after you leave you can participate again, in my mind. In South Africa the prisoners have the vite though, the government is worried they may noit get majority vote otherwise.

I think it's totally inappropriate to lock up violent people when they could be releasing there inner tensions while serving this country. to take very good killers and not let them fight in a war is a waste of talent.

I would not want someone like this aside of me if I were in the military.
I would not want to have to depend on someone who has proved he can't be depended on
