what does it mean to get your phone flashed? i got this phone and its alltel and i go threw cricket and i called and they said they could flash it ... well when i told my friends they said i wouldnt pay thatwhen we can do it for free and i dont know hwat it means and will it delete everything?

flashing a phone is resetting the information it uses to function at all.
any information you want off the phone you will need to save prior to flashing it.
when you flash a phone it will be like new from factory, no other information, or files will remain.
they need to flash your phone else it will not work on their network.

Flash is like reformatting a computer, all they are doing is installing software into your phone that they think might have become corrupted. It does mean everything will be deleted so its best to copy down every bit of information if it still works

It means "update firmware", i.e. software upgrade.
