I know the Galapagos cormorant has like a population of 1500. But what is an even rarer bird than them? Where do they live and what is their diet?

So you want to know the worlds rarest bird?

The answer is probably the ivory billed woodpecker. It was thought to be extinct but about 2 years ago one was seen in Arkansas. The first in 50 years or so that was confirmed. A video was made of it, so they know it is not a hoax. Just do a search. There was a subspecies in Cuba but the forest was logged and the population destroyed shortly after its discovery.

The problem with rare bird lists is that the birds that make the list are often the favorites of the people compiling them. Remember everything you read is written by someone and that someone has a point to make.

BTW further searches have heard them but not located them. There literally may be no more than one or two in the world. Do a search for ivory-billed woodpecker.

Bermuda Petrel, the global population of this bird in 2005 was only about 250 individuals.

But with 168 birds on the list of the world's most critically endangered creatures--and many of them from remote, inhospitable places--researchers cannot say for sure which species is the rarest.
