Would there be any problems or concerns from switching a engine that has been run with conventional oil to synthetic oil?

well i have already done my oil change i have a 2003 cavalier ls sport with 53K. Since i dont reallt drive it the way i should (well who dose ) i figured i would start to go with synthetics. also to ppl who want to know if it makes a immidiate diffrence i did notice that my engine ran quieter because its a DOHC engine and i noticed the valve train nosie went down enough to be noticed. I was just asking this question b/c my dad said that switching to a syntedic with a car that has always been using convention may cause problems so thanks for your answers guys. I recomend synthetics =)

Depends mostly on the age and mileage of the car.
Under 30,000miles, and under 3 years old should be fine.

The farther you go in both, the more likley you are to develope leaks.

It won't hurt the engine at all, it will help. Just may leak oil out the seals because synthetic generaly has a lower viscosity and molecular bond.

what I even have maximum in many situations seen with the problems of switching over to synthetic is that synthetic is a ''purifier'' oil and would have a decrease density then accepted oil while chilly. over the years your engine will construct up small deposits and residue, particularly circumstances what's going to ensue is that the synthetic oil will wash away all of those deposits and you need to come across some leaking seals and such. i might say basically shop making use of a good high quality accepted oil like Mobil1 and it would be basically high quality.

It'll be fine. That leak thing is just an old wives tale from when synthetic only came in 5W20 and was thinner than other oils. Now you just buy whatever weight you want. All approved motor oils are detergent. Bumbles is about as bright as his picture.

Sometimes the synthetic will make worn seals leak some.

But I would say go ahead and try it, see if it makes a difference. I always use synthetic in my cars and truck.

Good luck

Dont switch if you have been using regular oil and have over 100K miles, synthetic oil is a detergent oil and will clean out the rings and oil seals.... then you will have leaks....

I'm considering the same thing and my mechanic friend says it will be fine, just to make sure you change the filter as well (of course).
