Consider that if the above proposition fails, the Americans will have no body to elect to goverment to do what the electorate want. What does that say for democracy in America in 2007?

I thought the democrats were voted in because they opposed the war and want to withdraw troops. I also thought that most American's thought that the truth about 9/11 has not been reveiled. I also thought that most Americans thought the votes were rigged and that some people are currently under investigation for it.....is this not called the unpolular war?

Sara... almost everyone who answered this question is a RETARD!!!!! Us democrats are just as against the war as you brits, and we are trying everything we can to end this war, from electing the right officials, to marching in the streets, to writing to newspapers and media But unfortunately, while president sh*t for brains is in the white house, nothing can be done. He uses his veto power everytime the democrats propose legislation that will end the war. But, he does only have one more year in office, and afterwards, the democrats will rule for the next 100 years. Bush destroyed the reputation of the republicans, and will never be forgiven. And i, on behalf of my country, even though its not my fault, apoligize for us bringing u brits into this pointless nightmare of a war, hopefully, our long and historical friendship wont be damaged by it... have a nice day :)

What makes you think the American public wants to stop the war in Iraq ?
In almost every recent poll taken,
Only about 20% want the troops withdrawn " right now "
Another 35% want some sort of time line to the start of troop withdrawal, but not all the troops.
About 25% want the troops out of the cities, but still in Iraq fighting al-quada.
And the last 20% want the surge to continue.
So considering the American public is all over the board when it comes to Iraq, I'd say Democracy is doing just fine.

Short answer....nothing. A lot of Americans seem to forget why the USA came into being in the first place, basically to fight the tyranny being imposed on the 13 colonies by the government of Great Britain.
Whatever happened to that spirit in the US? Nowadays people don't seem willing, or able to hold the enemy to account like they did in the past, the sum result being that war criminals & all sorts of unsavoury types are given carte blanche to do what they want with the blessing of whichever administration is in power at the time.
Although the Dubya Dictatorship is seen by many as the worst in recent years, there have been others also such as Reagan, who should never been President in my opinion. Let's face it, anyone that talks to Chimps in movies isn't playing with a full deck of cards.
Only Americans can solve the problem. I am confident that day will come.
BTW - ban the gun culture guys!

You have a wonderful imagination. Must thinking people will realize that the Dems do not have enough control to do anything really big like stop the war in Iraq. I would hope the entire election isn't being based on that anyway.

I'd say education isn't the American's forte either judging by some of the posts I've seen so save your "enlightenment" for your own countrymen.
You mignt start by "enlightening them as regards the meaning of democracy, and torture, and diplomacy. Then you might progress to terms, like "UN Charter", "Honourable Nation", "Justifiable Actions", "Human Rights", Human Dignity".........Need I go on?

There is no war in Iraq. It is an occupation. And they will end it. And it will say "democracy in America in 2007 still works."

This is a Bush democracy. It is more like a Manifest Destiny.
Even dictator's from other countries would run things differently.

Stop the war in Iraq? Well, you could just withdraw, oops, then Iran takes over. Can't be done.
