There is this game that says cd/dvd drive in order for me to run it. Does that mean I NEED a dvd drive or is it just saying I need either or?

No, unless your media actually is a DVD. If so, the box would say PC DVD instead of PC CD.

It's written as CD/DVD because all DVD drives can read CD's, and if they wrote only CD drive, people with only DVD drives will be panicking. :)

It means if the game comes on a cd you can play it. If it is on a dvd you can't play it. 8x is the read speed required for the drive.

8x or faster CD/DVD drive is a drive that reads at the speed 8x or faster. you will need a DVD drive if only ur trying to run a DVD. but if its a CD that requires faster reading go buy one. at 8x or faster.. i suggest that you buy the 16x CD/DVD combo for like 20 bucks. or so.
