If you are in love with them, ask your family if their story is reasonable or not. People in love don't want to see their loved one as lying to them , because that would mean that they don't love them and no one wants to believe that, even if it is right before your eyes. Family members are not in love with them and they can still think straight about the situation.

They say looking to the right is thinking of the future, looking to the left is thinking about the past, looking down is looking down deep for an answer and looking up is looking to heaven for an answer? Or something like that.....??? So looking straight ahead is thinking in the present moment.

So do you really need to think about the past before you answer? Most people can remember the past without thinking about it, but liars have to think about what lie they told to who in the past. They have to keep their lies straight. People who tell the truth only have one version of the truth to keep straight.

I think somewhere I read if they blink a lot too.

If you are in love with a person and they start telling you that they are everything you ever wished for...WATCH OUT!! No one person is a perfect match to all your wishes. They should have some flaws.

That depends on how good a person is at lying. Some of the classic tell-tale signs are shifting eyes, uneasy tones in their voice, fidgeting of the hands or feet, etc...Most of this can, however be nervousness. Traditionally it was just accepted that if people were nervous, they had something to hide. This is one reason that I don't like the lie detector. All of the 'symptoms' of lying that it traces are as easily defendable to anxiety. Even with developing a base line, I think that if I were strapped in and had wires all over me I would become increasingly nervous the longer i had to remain like that even without the added stressor of an interogation. Other than that, it also becomes harder to tell if the person is callous, does not know you very well, or is a professional at bluffing or faking it (ie poker champs) For example, i can lie to a teacher, or a perfect stranger a lot easier than i can lie to my parents or my fiancee.

Ask them a probing question on the topic you think they're lying about. Due to reverse psychology, the liar will present you with a higher-than-normal level of detail to convince you that he/she's telling the truth. Also, the lying person has a very uneven voice modulation

i read somewhere that if a person looks to the left they are telling the truth. but if they look to their right they are telling a lie since they are accessing the side of imagination . something like that i cannot guarantee you i got the sides right though.

I think if you keep watching the person you are talking to, you can see inconsistencies in their body language...when they look around every time they answer, and then they stop....
when they look dead on every answer, and then start looking down...
when they start showing signs of nervousness and stress...
