It's like a comfort blanket. Looking up at the black sky, surrounded by small lights, it has sort of a calming, hypnotic effect. It makes you relaxed and open minded because somehow it makes you think what could be out there. It also in some people, makes them make shapes out of the stars. It's like a clear blue sky on a summer's day staring at that and the clouds. Being with nature and all. It's calming and relaxing. =]

I think like other people have said its because when we look at something so huge and unfathomable to our minds we are overwhelmed by how insignificant we really are, despite how on this world of ours we have built ourselves up to be the biggest most important thing, when we have something like that to lend us perspective, we become able to stand back and see all our problems and dilemmas as so much smaller than they seemed beforehand. Everyone should look to the stars on a regular basis then we might all live in lives with more perspective where all our problems are their proper size and therefoe more easily grasped and dealt with..

Back to nature. So many of us have lost the ability to look up, so to speak. We're stuck in our cities and bright lights and we have no contact with the basic instincts which we used to use for survival.
I live surrounded by hills and mountains. The extreme tempertures, weather conditions, trapped there for days on end. My favourite pass time is watching the stars. Just staring at the sky and being grateful for my life.

I think it is not only the beauty of the stars but also the wonder of such creation. It takes one away from reality to the realms of wonder and opens ones eyes and mind to greater things and away from day to day existence

Because you suddenly realise what a small speck of nothing we are compared to the Galaxy. Also there is that nothingness out there, look into the black and feel your mind just go limp.

Yes it's so calming and peaceful, and on such a clear warm night too. I like to look up in the sky, cos that's where my mum and dad are looking down over me.

We can look endlessly at the fire, stars and... the work of another man :-)))... Why? Maybe because all three of them are the great subjects for philosophical arguments which we like, ha?
