Because they are miserable & unhappy, and just want others to suffer like themselves.

Because if they are feeling miserable, then they want you to feel miserable, too. If you want to really piss them off just say, "Just remember God loves you!" at the end of every conversation you have with them, even if you believe in him or not. I do that all the time and they can never come back with anything. Good luck!
