If you major in Economics, so get out of college with a degree in Econ, can you be called an economist?

Yes you can be called an economist much the same way a graduate in Physics would be called aphysicist and one in Emgineering an engineer. But in reality, you would be far from being an economist. For that you need much more indepth knowledge and practical exposure.

Typically only econ PhD's are called "economists".
