Considering buying a home. There is a driveway which is in the middle of the property line...half would belong to us, half to the next door neighbor. There is also a garage which is divided down the middle. When it was built, the people in the homes in question were related so they shared the garage. If we move in this would not be acceptable. What's an ideal solution for this problem?

Get on good terms with the other person.
Agree on where the dividing line is, and agree on who is responsible for what, such as maintenance, snow removal, etc.

I would definately discuss this with real estate agent. and meet the other people before you commit.
If you and they don't hit it off right from the start,, then forget about it and look for another house.

The land should have been sub divided before the first sale. You can share a driveway, I would never do it because you have to count on the other party to keep up their share of the upkeep but I don't think it is legal to sell a piece of a garage.

In most states that is illegal. There is a 5 foot easement line that should be met
