Why do women like to gossip?

I think because most women don't have anything better to do and it is the only thing that keeps them entertained besides soap operas.

Women kind of have a bad rap about gossip. Men do some gossip too, but in a different way. I think it works like this; everyone likes some gossip, on some level. It is more socially acceptable for women to gossip, it's expected. It is considered "unmanly" for guys to gossip, so we find other ways of getting the info out (or in). Sometimes the easiest way is to tell a woman and hope it gets out. Gossip itself is just a way of knowing what's going on. Maybe it is relaxing to feel "in the know"; but, no matter how you look at it - it is still minding someone else's business. Gossip is unfair because the person is not there to defend himself or set the record straight and most people will either believe the story or at least remember it.

I think it is a misconception that only women like to gossip. I think weak people in general like to gossip because it makes them feel better about themselves. Typically your gossiper i the type of person that needs drama constantly in their lives and when they don't have any they create it by talking s*** about others. I think that men engage in this type of behavior just as much as women. Bottom line - gossip is a way to make your flaws go away for the moment. For the record I don't consider women talking about celebrities gossip, I am talking about the type along these lines:
"did you here that so in so is getting lypo? Oh ya she needs it too honey with those saddle bags!"

Gossip sets hormones free called endorphines (same with chocolate by the way). That suggest your brain that you are happy and it makes you feel better. You often put other people down by gossip to get over your own insecurities as well.

Because some women/men are rude and have nothing better to do, they gossip because it makes them feel better about themselves. Not all women like to gossip!

This is funny cuz i work in a male dominated business & have done so for over 20 years & THE MEN GOSSIP MORE THAN ANY WOMEN I KNOW!

They also get 'bitchy' & whine & complain ALL the time. I could swear they have PMS sometimes! LOL

Not only women gossip. If you have ever been to a barber shop or other place where men gather, you will hear men gossip too. Only men don't tend to call it that. Why?

They say women just communicate more, so naturally, they would gossip more. However, my bf is as much a gossip hound as me.

It's not gossip for them. Women bond by sharing their innermost feelings and secrets with one another, even if they've just met. It's why they tend to be more comfortable in intimate situations than men tend to be.
