The Navy actually has more service members in the Space Program. But either way, this is how you get a really good shot at getting into the space program. You have to start preparing now.

You will want to become an officer and you can do this three ways.

1. Go to the Air Force or Naval Academy after highschool.
2. Join Air Force or Navy ROTC when you are going to college and apply for the officer training program.

3. Enlist and apply for the officer training program. (not advisable)

So you want to go to the Air Force or Naval Academy.

1. Contact them and find out their admission requirements.

They are both highly selective schools. You will have to be in excellent shape as you have to meet certain physical qoutas. Particiapte in many sports and extracirricular activites and clubs, especially during highschool, and do a lot of volunteer work. They are looking for self motivated achivers who can demonstrate leadership ability and are of high moral standing. You must shine brightly.

You must also do very well academically. Learn how to study. You will have to take many math and science classes to be an astronaut. Invest in tutors in subjects you have difficulties with. Have good relationships with your instructors and participate in class.

Contact NASA and find out about programs for students and different astronaut positions. They are always willing to help you along.

If you don't get into the Air Force or Naval Academy, don't despare, just go to a university with the proper ROTC and continue to do well.

Also look into joining the Civil Air Patrol cadet program. You are just old enough. This will greatly increase your chances of getting into one of the military academies, it's also a fun thing to be a part of. They teach you aerospace education, participate in search and rescue, and disaster relief, and give you tours of military bases (they sometimes fly you there in C-130's). You can also learn to fly through them, and do many other things.

Today, you'll need a High School education and a clean criminal record to get into the Air Force. Also you need to be18yrs old. I'ts a good choice. Lackland Air Force Base
in San Antonio Texas is where you will take your Basic Training. If you want to be an astronaut I would tell you to get a college degree and apply for OCS.Thats Officer Canidate School. The Air Force will send you to school and on completion you'll be a 2cd Lieutanant. From there its up to you where you go. The sky is the limit. Good luck.

You failed to tell us what country you live in, and your nationality. That has a lot to do with "how" you join the Air Force.

In high school you must take any course that steers you towards a college education. in college you should take
Engineering with majors in Aerodynamics and Physics.

NASA has a Web Site and is an equal opportunity employer.
