In the old days there were 2 main nuclear powers that were enemies, the US and USSR, and there was Mutually Assured Destruction if either attacked the other with nukes; so they didn't.
The situation has changed now and we need to think about it. There are a number of smaller nuclear powers in an increasingly unstable political situation. Plus, there is the possibility of a non-state actor getting a nuke and using it as a terror weapon; as in the case of 9/11, it may not be immediately certain where it came from or who sent it.
What would the US do if one of these powers attacked an ally of ours?

I know the US will win. They know we will win. That is why it has not been fought yet. The libs give the enemy a confidence we can be broken.
