What's the maximum number of pets it's okay to have in an apartment?

It depends on the rules at your apartment complex. You should check with management. Some apartments don't allow any pets on the premises, while others may allow only caged animals, yet others might allow only small dog breeds.

But, for most people I'd say more than 3 animals of any kind in a small space might get to be overwhelming. All of the activity, noise, and smell could be frustrating to deal with.

I think a lot depends a lot on how you keep your house and how well you take care of your animals. My landlord allows me to use as much of his 2000 acres as I want for my horse and donkey. I have a 9 room farm house with 5 dogs, 5cats,5 birds and some fish. I must do okay as the landlord has been screwing up bad and I had a state fire marshall and an inspector for the dept. of health in here this week and they both said he was lucky to have me here and how nice we keep our home. They even remarked how usually a home with that many pets smells like it and ours don't they said. I didn't think so either but I live here so it's nice to have another agree as well. I really think it's what you do that makes a landlord decide how many you can have.

Sorry this cannot be answered. Every town, city and building is different depending on laws and owners so you'll have to ask. Most landlords don't allow ANY pets at all because they either mess up the place or leave odors.
