Here is my idea. Shipping is very important and has been for a long time. How about a paper on the early ships that sailed the Mediterranean and then follow how improvements in ships changed civilization? Early ship were rowed and then had sails and rowers. Then sails on one mast, then two, etc.

Most papers are on people or events. A paper on changes in boats may be something fresh your teacher hasn't seen before. You could discuss only trading ships, only war ships, or both depending on the size of the paper.

Good lick.

There are soooo many topics, but here's a hint, if you want to keep it interesting find a topic that has some controversy surrounding it.

For example, what was the history of Edward II? We all know Edward I, from the movie Brave heart, but his son, Edward II is far more controversial.

What about King Richard the Lion-hearted of Robin Hood fame? There's a reason why he never had any children.

What of Anne Boleyn? The second wife of Henry VIII had a child described as "a monster". Well, she had genetic issues anyway (six fingers) and she was accused of sleeping with her brother, so you can figure it out.

If you want to do something more modern, how about the Japanese concentration/torture camp in Mongolia? Now that's a wild one.

Oh, so much history and so many choices ... but to be interesting, choose something that interests you and that has some good controversy behind it.
