It happened in Australia that a 13 years old girl was under attack by a sea lion. The first attack, the sea lion got the girl's head in its mouth, which broke the girl's lower jaw and lost 3 teeth. As the sea lion was going in for the second attack, the driver on the motorboat got inbetween the sea lion and the girl. The driver grabbed the girl and put her in his boat. The driver said that his greatest fear was that he wasn't going to get there in time before the sea lion's second attack.

There are different species of sealion and fur seal, Australia has three or four. Male sealions can be aggressive and will attack if they feel threatened. I can only imagine that the seal mistook the girl for something threatening. Perhaps some timely advice about not swimming near seals would be worthwhile.

They were in sea-lion waters, with a big noisy motor boat, did they really consider the dangers of upsetting a male sea-lion, obviously not. Maybe that should be a lesson to other people. Though it still is sad a girl got hurt.

No I did not know this until I heard the report.
Sounds as if the Sea Lion was a bit agitated, but why remains?

MOST ANIMALS DO NOT ATTACK HUMANS. They are not vicious creatures, not even sharks or lions.

This is just one case. I would guess that the girl was doing something, maybe unconsciously, to provoke the sea lion.
