What spray can I use to prime polystyrene that won't melt it all??

Other then that, what's the best way to make a cast from a shape I already have in Polystyrene?

Cheers,.

There's a bunch of info on modeling with polystyrene, etc., on this page of my site if you want to check it out... and you might want to visit the main site that's linked to there for more info too:

http://glassattic.com/polymer/covering.htm
(... click on the subcategory SHAPING, CUTTING, GLUING, under the Plastics #6 Polystyrene category...)

As for melting or dissolving the polystyrene, basically just make sure you don't use anything with a petroleum-based solvent in it (anything called "enamel," or that doesn't clean up with water)... even spray acrylics can have a solvent just in the propellant though.

Do you want to make a cast or a mold from the shaped polystyrene? Maybe it would help to say exactly what you're doing, the sizes involved, what you want to end up with, etc.

go to your local hobbyshop.

All plastic models are made from polystyrene! Any of the paints that work for them will work for you.

Avoid lacquer-based paints. Enamels, acrylics and latex paints will all work fine. You can even use lacquers but if put on too heavily will melt the plastic.
