Most movies earn their profit with DVDs, because that is how most people watch movies these days, so why even bother marketing to theatres? Very few movies turn a profit at the theatre.

Based on the ridiculousness a person has to put up with at movie theatres these days and how terrible some movies are made, I can see why movies don't turn a profit at theatres.

The ad campaigns they use to market films at theatres 'carry over' into dvd sales. When a dvd is released people 'remember' they wanted to see it from the marketing that was done for theatres. That's why they don't have to advertise new dvd releases in such a big way. Mostly they just have to announce its release and we'll go buy/rent it based on our own memories of the theatrical trailers and such.

The condition of the theatres and the conditions within are not the responsibility of the motion picture companies, they are the responsibility of the cinema owners. If cinema owners were to remedy the problems they have, more people would go to watch the movies. That fact is self evident, as is the fact that if more people go to the cinema there is more chance of the films making a profit.
Most movies are made to be watched on the big screen. You do not get the full effect of picture or sound at home, unless you have enough money to have a private theatre yourself.

It's called early marketing awareness. Part of the market analysis is to figure out different methods to get the film in the minds of their customers. In this case, they don't really care about making a profit at this particular point, but just want to get the name out in some way. Therefore, since audiences are already attending the theater (and yes, they still do) for some film, then they already have an established market to target their film towards.

Movie theatres get people to know about movies even if they don't see them because theatres open films up to an international audience.

No, i'm high quality with that. they only make around 8% earnings margin. i do no longer understand of very many different companies that make so little on their products or centers. Edit: to Jurydoc - If the value of a barrel of oil is going up, then so do the income of the oil business enterprise. the expenditures to extract the oil from the floor stay the comparable jointly as the product is extra efficient.
